Is the TikTok Discover button missing or not working on the bottom bar of the app?
The Discover button is helpful when it comes to discover trending hashtags, effects, and sounds.
To get video ideas, you can scroll down the page.
A search bar is also available that can be used to search for videos, users, sounds and so on.
However, many users reported that the discover button is not showing on the app.
The discover button is missing and the button is replaced by the Friends button.
In this post, I will tell you what happened to the Discover button on TikTok, why it’s missing/not showing, and how to fix it.
The Discover button on TikTok was changed by the Friends button on the app for some users.
In May 2022, TikTok launched a new “Friends” tab on the bottom bar of the app.
According to TikTok, the “Friends” tab will help you to find content from people that you’re connected with.
You can watch the videos of your friends by tapping on “Friends”.
The friends will be your contacts, Facebook friends, and mutual followers.
If you do not have any of them, TikTok will recommend you to sync your contacts and Facebook friends.
On the other hand, some users still have the button of Discover on the app.
If your account is showing Friends button instead of Discover, it shows that you are also selected for beta-testing.
To fix the Discover button missing on TikTok, your task is to sign out of your account.
After logging out, you’ll be able to see the button on the bottom bar.
You will become a guest on the application by logging out of TikTok.
Now, as a guest, your followers, contacts and FB friends will not be synced on the app.
As a result, the Friends button will be changed by the Discover button.
Although the fix is not permanent, it enables you to search for the things on TikTok with ease.
You can browse TikTok using the Discover button by logging out.
On the other hand, you can use an additional TikTok account or create a new one.
I have seen one of my TikTok accounts is showing the Discover button whereas the rest of the accounts have Friends button on them.
Step 1. Go to your settings
First of all, go to TikTok and tap on the profile icon on the bottom bar.
After tapping on the profile icon, you’ll be on your TikTok profile.
On the top right corner of your profile, you need to tap on the menu icon.
To visit your settings, tap on “Settings and privacy”.
Step 2. Log out of TikTok
After tapping on “Settings and privacy”, it will take you to the “Settings and privacy” page.
Now, the next step is sign out of your TikTok account.
To begin with, scroll down to the bottom of the page and tap on “Log out”.
If you are using another TikTok account, you need to log out it as well.
Step 3. Tap on “Discover”
After logging out of all of your TikTok accounts, it will take you to the homepage of the app.
As a result, you will be using TikTok as a guest rather than a user.
Since you’re using TikTok as a guest, your contacts, Facebook friends, & mutual followers will not be synced.
Therefore, the Friends button will be changed by the Discover button.
Now, you can use the Discover button for the sake of searching hashtags, users, sounds and so on.
Although this is an indirect fix, it is still a reliable solution to get the Discover button back.
You can also create a new TikTok account to check if the button is available.
The Discover button is very necessary on TikTok as it helps you to get video ideas.
It is difficult to find trending effects, hashtags and sounds without the Discover button.
A TikTok representative stated that the “For You” page is the same as the Discover button.
Therefore, they changed the Discover button with the Friends button.
This feature is launched to connect you with people you are already connected with.
Unluckily, a lot of users reported about the feature because it’s difficult to search for things on the app.
Having said that, the Friends button is in the beta-testing phase.
Currently, I do not have any idea when TikTok will launch the button for all its users.
