Want to improve Alexa Ranking?
If yes, you are at the right place.
Numbers don’t lie.
When it comes to the value and popularity of your business, it is an important thing to have a significant Alexa ranking.
Why?
It is a common metric that investors or business partners will use to measure the state of your business.
They will use it to calculate the health of your business and whether the trend of your business is up or down.
The lower your Alexa Rank, the better, and vice versa.
That is the reason that most of the business owners pay attention to their Alexa rank. They work tirelessly to improve it.
In this post, I would like to discuss two key things.
First of all, I shall discuss the factors that Alexa takes into consideration when determines the rankings.
Secondly, I shall give a strategy which you can use to improve your Alexa Ranking in 30 days or less.
Let’s hit it.
What is an Alexa Rank?
So we are on the same page, allow me to define or let you know what is an Alexa rank.
According to Avangate,
“It’s a ranking system set by alexa.com (a subsidiary of amazon.com) that audits and makes public the frequency of visits on various web sites.
Alexa’s support section also makes clear even by explaining how they determine the traffic rankings:
“Alexa’s traffic estimates and ranks are based on the browsing behavior of people in our global data panel which is a sample of all Internet users. Alexa’s Traffic Ranks are based on the traffic data provided by users in Alexa’s global data panel over a rolling 3 month period.”
Here is what Google’s Alexa Rank looks like at number one:
And here is another website Quick Sprout that looks like at the moment:
Not nearly as good as Google, nevertheless still solid. So the lowest ranked website can be somewhere around 30 million.
Which factors does Alexa analyze?
Before I start sharing the strategy plan, it is important to understand what Alexa considers when assigns a ranking to websites.
Luckily, Alexa is very bold about how it calculates the data or how its data is calculated.
According to the Alexa Blog, “Every day, Alexa estimates the average daily visitors and pageviews to every site over the past 3 months. The site with the highest combination of visitors and pageviews over the past 3 months is ranked #1.”
“The site with the least is ranked somewhere around 30 million. If no one in our measurement panel visited a site over the past 3 months there is no rank at all for that site.”
They also provide a couple of graphs to make this clear:
There is no doubt in saying that Google receives more traffic than any other website on the web.
It gets more pageviews and daily visitors, so it stands at the top of the sites.
Alexa also claims the fact that the closer you get to the top of the rankings, the harder it becomes to move up a rank.
While it is easy for a site that has ranking of 25,600,172 to move up to, let’s say, 19 million. But climbing from 50 to 40 is more difficult.
The main key point is that it is all about two key factors:
- Average daily visitors
- Pageviews over the last three months
After this discussion, here is what you need to do to improve your Alexa ranking with ease and quick.
Certify your site metrics
If you do not mind to make a small investment, it is a good idea to use Certified site metrics of Alexa.
It will give you a certified code of Alexa that will directly measure the traffic of your website.
It offers several advantages:
- You get a more accurate Alexa Rank
- You have access to more in-depth analytics reports (using a private dashboard)
- You can closely monitor the performance of your site
- You will also get the option of showing unique visitors, pageviews, and ranks publicly
Here are the different pricing options:
The insight plan gives a free monthly SEO audit which is an important factor to note. You can also get a full site audit using the Advanced plan every two weeks.
This is just something you need to keep in mind while choosing a plan.
Here is a screenshot from Alexa support that explains how to get your site certified:
In a nutshell, if you certify your site metrics, it will give you an advantage over other sites.
You can get a clear overview of your website and it’s health. It also has tools to improve your ranking.
Produce epic content
It is an important component of online marketing on any level.
So you not only need to create an epic content but you have to create A+ content for your audience to satisfy them.
So it is another necessity for boosting your Alexa ranking.
Get quality backlinks
What are two critical factors that Google takes into account when assigning a ranking to your website?
It includes authority and trust. “Domain trust/authority consists of 23.87% of Google’s ranking algorithm.”
To get quality inbound links is a straightforward way to increase the authority or trust of your site.
They have to be from relevant and reputable websites.
It is easier to realize than done.
I wish that it was as easy to write a blog post and having multiple big name publications that backlink to you.
Of course, it is a hard nut to crack.
At the end of the day, it stands back to create great content.
In fact, I want to agree with 90/10 rule of link building, where “90% of your effort should go into creating great content, and 10% into link building.”
When it comes to the method of backlinking or link building, guest posting is one of the best techniques.
If you can get even a few guest posts on reputable or authority sites, it will result in an improved Alexa ranking within a month.
Analyze your competitors’ keywords
Here is a question for you.
What is your motivation behind to improve your Alexa Ranking? Or what is the purpose to improve your Alexa ranking?
I think that the reason behind it to have a better ranking than your competitors. Right?
Of course, you want to perform better in the competition. But how do you go for it?
One of the best ways to get an edge with Alexa Rank, and with SEO in general, is to analyze the keywords of your competitors.
You will want to know which keywords are bringing enough traffic, they way of generating backlinks and so on.
Once you will know the keywords that bring the bulk of traffic to their websites. You can optimize your website for those keywords and get used to it.
It is like killing two birds using one stone. It will not only improve your Alexa Rank, it will also improve your overall SEO ranking as well.
But how can you analyze their keywords?
I suggest using Google’s Keyword Planner.
There are a number of tools available but this is the universal.
Google is generally a go-to source for web data.
Here is what you do.
Go to your Keyword Planner dashboard.
Click on “Search for new keywords using a phrase, website or category.”
Under “Your landing page,” type in the URL of your competitor.
I will just use quicksprout.com as an example:
Click on “Get Ideas” at the bottom, and your screen will show a list of competitor keywords.
Here are just a number of keywords that come from my search:
By using the Google Keyword Planner, you can determine the volume of monthly searches in instant manner. You will also be able to determine the level of competition for each keyword.
Create better content that performs better than your competitors. It is a great way to boost your SEO and at the same time, it also improves your Alexa rank.
If you want to see a significant improvement within 30 days, I will recommend first going after minimum competition. It means that go for minimal competition keywords with a lot of searches.
Focus on low competition keywords initially for a surge in your ranking.
Conclusion
In several ways, your Alexa rank directly affects the progress as well as the health of your business.
It is something that key stakeholders will often take into consideration whether your company is worth doing business with or not.
That is why achieving a favorable ranking that is, at least in the top 100,000 should be your priority.
